According to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), over one billion people in the world today are caught in the poverty trap. Identify key economic, social, or political reasons why some people within the developing world live on $1 a day. Next, determine at least three (3) possible economic, social, or political steps that developing countries overall can take to extricate their poor citizens from this dilemma.

The topics of this discussion are good for a warm-up.  Review the lecture (online) and WebText (online) and answer the questions.

There are two questions.  Shortened versions follow below:

1. Why many people in LDCs live on $1 per day?  What are the factors that make this possible?

2. What steps can be taken (three measures in different spheres) that can pull people out of extreme poverty in LDCs?

Note: LDC stands for Less Developed Country.

Precede your answers with questions in bold font.  The questions than are follow by your answers in p l a i n  t e x t.
